Review

Motorcycle Club (MC) books, they’re a guilty pleasure for me, but one that I don’t feel even remotely guilty about. So whenever I catch a new one that peaks my interest, I’m pretty quick to dive in and get my bad boy biker on.

Incandescent was no different.

Right off the blurb, I got a Jax Teller vibe from Nix. He wanted to do right by his club. Get them away from the illegal dealings and into something straight. Sue me, but I’m a sucker for the guy wanting to do the right thing, even if it’s something dark that pushes him in that direction to begin with, and he’s got to go even darker to achieve it. I become invested in characters like that and so I became instantly invested in Nix.

Add in the bonus of him being a caring father and man, I couldn’t devour his story fast enough.

But no romance, least of all one of this nature can run on one character alone. You need to have a character built just as strongly as he is to compliment him. To take what was already pretty awesome and make it that much more so. For this story, that character was his son’s teacher, Kadence.

I’m not entirely sure what it was about her that spoke to me first, whether it be what she went through and survived or the way she handled Nix upon first meeting him, but I was drawn to her right away. She didn’t appear weak willed. There was a toughness about her, most likely stemming from the horror that she lived through, that made me like her, and by association, the two of them together.

They played well off each other, each one giving as good as they got and keeping each other on their toes at all times. She let him have it on more than one occasion, and he was persistent with her. Unable to understand himself why he needed to be around her as much as he did, but not giving up despite it.

What I liked most about Nix was that he had more of a softer side than is present in most MC stories. The way he dealt with Kadence’s fears over her scars, how he treated her when they were together, how he worshipped her, both in the bedroom and out of it, it was a nice change. I liked seeing the alpha kind of merge with the best parts of a beta here. It didn’t make him weak to me, it made him unique.

Knowing nothing of the lifestyle, I can’t speak to how true to form the club interactions were, like how realistic it all was, but what I can say is that what was here, I bought into. I got behind all of the characters in this story, and found myself rooting for them all (though not the psycho ex. He got what he deserved).

The family vibe was strong in this story, especially with the way Kadence took to Nix’s son, almost as if she was the mother he should have had from the start. It was a beautiful thing to be a part of and turned a good story, into something great.

This was a fast paced, edge of your seat, sexy yet sweet, easy flowing read and one that I’m so glad that I came across because it gave me everything I wanted. River Savage, you officially have a new fan. I can’t wait to see where you take this MC next.
